My flock free ranging as one for the first time today. Bok at front, then Snow then baby Belle (although she is the absolute boldest when it comes to food)

I think I missed what breeds you have. I'd be guessing an ISA & a Sussex??? I can't even hazard a guess on the 3rd.

ISA (Bok) Sussex (Snow) and Belle which I bought as a speckled sussex but was told on here she’s perhaps a jubilee orp and that’s why she’s just grown her tail feathers (still hoping they are both pullets haha)

Thank you. I was wondering if Belle might be a speckled Sussex but she didn't look quite right ~ though photos & very young pullets can make it particularly hard.

I’ll start shutting them in at night based on the sound advice on here
Thankfully here we don’t have as wide a variety of wild predators in Aus as you guys have. Here in the ‘burbs it’s mainly cats and perhaps foxes (which I know can jump fences no matter how high) with the occasional kites circling high during the day.
Thanks again everyone for the input, I’ll make sure to keep my girls more secure from here on out ☺

Never, never underestimate the foxes.
They are smart and fast.

Have to share, I’m sorry I’m posting so much so fast after joining! Belle and Snow (9.5 weeks) just went up into the coop together (Belle had a few tries before success, she’s small but she’s feisty ), they gave Bok, the older hen, about 10 mins to settle in there then they went in Im so pleased, I was watching through the lounge window, reading my book with a glass of red hahaha cheers all round

I didn't know there were foxes in my neighbourhood until they took Dora, Nigella, and Alice.

Oh, I know, you guys have just made me see that just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it won’t so better to be safe than sorry
Haha, yes, there are a lot of things here that have the potential to kill you but being in a more populated area the chances of crossing paths with them slims down.
In saying that, snakes are the worst I’ve encountered. I remember walking home from school many moons ago through high grassed areas and seeing brown snakes sunning themselves on rocks, an awesome sight if you don’t get tooooo close.
Our honeymoon was down the coast of Victoria in a cabin in the bush, spa on the deck, views that made you remember what peace is. Took our dog for a walk (yes, he came on our honeymoon!) along one of the bush tracks and saw a massive brown getting warm, so magnificent (and so glad it didn’t move!)
And walking to work at the local school recently I happened upon a copperhead just off the footpath haha
Always remember, be careful in rock pools (blue rings), don’t stick your hands in places there could be red backs and if you see a snake, don’t go too close. As for the ocean, forget that, too much in there that can kill hahaha

I can't figure out how you all survive there.
