Since it's not considered to be deadly, most likely it is real.

They're not deadly but they do have venomous spurs (IIRC)

Actually you can see one of her spurs very clearly in that photo. The other one is the same size and shape.

True story, this week two southern right whales have been hanging around off one of Adelaide's beaches. A mother and calf. Of course one twit had to go out too close to them on his kite surfing board
