It's very comforting to discuss things with a specialist, I'm sorry you don't have access to a bird vet. I'm very lucky because there are several to choose from. They do other small animals too, but have built their practises on birds.

I have a state lab for testing but I am generally on my own to treat. This website is one of my best resources. We are doing pretty good overall but a vet may have been quicker to diagnose than me in some instances.

Mary is a black Australorp. She is the prettiest of my three chickens with iridescent black plumage and big black eyes that go blink-blink in a very charming way.

Gosh she's beautiful!

Oh wow, @BY Bob that's full on and I'm impressed because I would not have done so well.

In case it's helpful for you in the future, the vet said other metritis/coryza symptoms are eggs without bloom and purple tips on the comb.

Thank you @MiaS Her feathers are particularly iridescent green. A very pretty hen. She's my wildest though. I'm not allowed to touch her.

An update on Sandy

Sandy is behaving as usual this evening, which means foraging in the yard. I put the medication in the water and they've all been drinking it, which is amother relief. Hoping lil Sandy will get over this nasty infection and return to good health.
