MJ's little flock

I think you once said you take your hens to an avian vet. Which vet @LozzyR ?

We call her Dr Nikki, she works at Greencross, which I think is a chain/franchise as there seem to be a few dotted about. She’s so lovely, she sees our cats too. There’s another vet called Kevin (we appear to be on a first-name basis :D) who isn’t necessarily an avian vet, but he has owned chooks and is experienced.

Mary's in the nesting box!

It's been weeks since I last saw a white egg! Maybe she's decided to come back from her summer holiday? Last week she was very red in her comb and wattles, so I'm hopeful!

She took a short drink (only two minutes, usually she's at her drink for a good fifteen because she has to spend so much time dabbing her shoulders with water) and then made for the nesting box with a lot of determination and no hesitation. Straight up the ramp, through the little door, gone from sight.

Come on Mary, my friend!
Huzzah!!

She's got some catching up to do...

Haha :D I'm a bit of a fuddy duddy about calling people Dr because so few people have earned it - having a doctorate is special. I'm very old fashioned in that regard.

That’s why we call Nikki ‘Dr Nikki’ as I’m also quite particular about titles. I don’t like the whole ‘children calling adults by their first name’ thing, but I don’t want my son to feel ostracised by being the only child around calling adults ‘Mr and Mrs’. That’s a bit of cognitive dissonance for me. Where I can, I’ll get him to give an adult a title, for example, I get him to call my best friend’s dad ‘Opa Tom’. As you can call some adults ‘aunty’ and ‘uncle’ and then their name, I feel if a child uses an adult’s first name but with a title, it’s a bit more respectful. But that’s just me, I’m a bit old-school in that regard. :)

Hmmmm....:hmm I'm the other way. I don't think just because someone has some sort of title they are automatically deserving of special respect. They may still be a terrible person. :( I taught mine to address adults with respect even when just using their Christian name & I personally prefer even children use my given name. After all, that is my name, but I also kept my maiden name after marriage so I'm not really a missus or a Miss & I dislike MS, which is meaningless. I also worked with the most difficult boys in remedial classes & I was never treated with anything but the utmost respect although lots of the teachers had trouble with them and they always just called me Jeannie.... :) I don't use the title pastor either, though I could & I never add initials after my name, though I am entitled to. I'm funny that way. I'd rather people accept me as a person 1st. The other stuff really is secondary however special and hard earned.

Oh, the other thing is telemarketers come to a crashing full stop because they will assume that I'm Mrs SoandSo but no Mrs SoandSo lives here & so I tell them. No excuses. No explanations. You can practically hear the gears of their brains grinding trying to work that one out!
