MJ's little flock

Hmmmm....:hmm I'm the other way. I don't think just because someone has some sort of title they are automatically deserving of special respect. They may still be a terrible person. :( I taught mine to address adults with respect even when just using their Christian name & I personally prefer even children use my given name. After all, that is my name, but I also kept my maiden name after marriage so I'm not really a missus or a Miss & I dislike MS, which is meaningless. I also worked with the most difficult boys in remedial classes & I was never treated with anything but the utmost respect although lots of the teachers had trouble with them and they always just called me Jeannie.... :) I don't use the title pastor either, though I could & I never add initials after my name, though I am entitled to. I'm funny that way. I'd rather people accept me as a person 1st. The other stuff really is secondary however special and hard earned.

I totally agree it’s possible to use someone’s first name respectfully and that some people don’t deserve a title. I suppose it’s a personal thing and so long as my son is respectful towards other people, then that’s all that matters.

Yep. Totally. I met some total creeps @ uni. All the initials under the sun but wouldn't give you the time of day as human beings. It is personal & affected by life experiences. :hugs And to be clear ~ I appreciate those with the fortitude to get degrees & doctorates & all the rest of it but I expect them to be decent human beings as well.:p

It's as much respect for the work itself as respect for the person. I don't care if a jerk makes the scientific breakthrough tthat cures cancer. I will call that jerk Dr/Prof simply because their profound contribution relieves the suffering of millions of other people. It's the work being honoured in this hypothetical, not the jerk who did it.

In a non-hypothetical example, I work with a professor who's a bit of a jerk but whose breakthroughs are deeply innovative. His work attracts the best students from around the world. His breakthroughs will have mainstream adoption within a decade. He's epically busy making time for politicians, doctoral students, the media, convening conferences, consulting, speaking on panels, editing journals, that he can't always make time for nice talk. He listens, he answers, times up, moving on. I'm totally ok with that and I honour his work, not his character.

Gotcha! :)

Yes thanks. I've been spending lots of time visiting with people, reading and cleaning the house.

With the hens I'm about to go out and spray Sandy for mites and lice again. I've been told they're opportunistic and will spend more time on a sick hen than healthy ones. She's been grooming much more than the other two lately, which in any case is ineffectual with her beak. So it's time she had a little help with her passengers.

Two eggs today now that Mary's back on the job. I think her tally will outrun Janet's within a fortnight.

I called the breeder of the CCLs on Friday. No answer.
