In happier news, Lorna enthusiastically accepted and immediately ate 5 tiny pinches of bread crust. Half the size of a normal pinch.

The bread was wholegrain with seeds.

I'll put a little liquid food on her next batch of tiny bread crust pinches and see if she eats it.

Janet and Ivy have switched spots. Janet is doing remarkably well, given her age and ongoing struggle against bacteria.

Those are really nice rates. I'm surprised Mary laid so many.

Me too! Especially as she's always been a slow layer, but in 2022 she was out of action with her hernia for three weeks and then she was broody for four weeks. It's amazing she did so well against the previous years' scores.

Late morning weigh-in: 840g. A slight improvement.

I made her take all 10ml of her liquid food.

I found a webpage that said she should be three times heavier than this by age 24 weeks. She's 20 weeks.

She just gobbled up 6 tiny pinches of bread crust and each pinch had been dipped in leftover liquid food.

Any trick to get liquid food in her other than crop feeding is helpful!
I know this hasn't worked for others, but when I did the 7 days deworming I was so relieved my flock ate the paste stuck in small grapes.

I know they are not the same breeds, but have you weighed the other pullets ?
How are they doing ? I feel like I've only been asking about Lorna.

I so hope the good care you are giving her will help, but we all know that keeping chickens means being ready at all time to loose them.

The other pullets are doing very well. They're boisterous and strong. Sometimes I think they're taking care of Lorna. They seem to cuddle around her, rather than cuddle around each other.
