Well, I'm lucky he's so skilled and willing to attempt surgery. That's 2 very weird internal situations he's found and remedied for the flock in a comparatively short space of time.

It is a combination of everything including Dr. Mark's skill that saved her life. But it all starts with you. Not everyone would even take a chicken to the vet even if they had access to a vet as talented as Dr. Mark.

It is wonderful that you have access to him.

Isn't it. There are moments I wounder if my Dear Daisy would still be alive if I had access to someone as talented as Dr. Mark back then.

Thank you both for asking.
I was away for just under a week and got back yesterday - they seem to have been growing like weeds! And they seem to have survived the thick smoke from the wildfires just fine.

The lovely Miss Pigletine hopped up on my little table and posed for the camera and then hopped over to sit on the arm of my chair.
And then I sat in my chair and admired a field full of chickens.
Pooh is missing from the picture because she was under my chair so I am attaching another photo that includes Pooh so she isn't left out!

They have such cute crests and sweet little feet they're going to be such gorgeous hens!

There seems to be a scraggly tail many pullets go through. Lorna, Edie and Katie all had scraggly tail at one point

It is quite comical because they do look like chickens - but next to Bernie they are still very tiny.
In my quest for fluffy butt pictures today I will try and get a Bernie size comparison.
The thing is that they still sound like children and behave like children. There is endless peeping and dashing around just for the fun of it. And of course they fly, so they are everywhere.
I have to say though I felt great peace as I sat in my chair and I had 8 chickens happily scratching around at my feet. The Chicken Palace is plenty big enough to confine 8 chickens for a week - but even so, they were very happy to be out and about. Lots of long grass is in seed and they made the most of it!

I find a tranquility in being with content chickens that I can't access through other means. They're endearing and trusting. Look at these two on the chair next to me. A moment ago Katie had her neck bent all the way around so she could groom her tail and as she moved her head, her wing on the opposite side was moving in unison, so sweet!

She's still making high pitched squeaks instead on boks too. Edie is more mature and bokky.

That's true. I don't really hold myself above the chickens and cat, if I grant myself medical support, I can't withhold it from them without setting up a double standard and that's not who I want to be. Luckily I can afford to live by my values instead of having to let it slide, or worse, changing my values to suit the budget. So it all comes down to what and how I was taught as a youngster.

Thank you Bob! She's a sweetheart too. She trusts me a little more since we had to cuddle two nights in a row to move her out to the big coop (to allow Joyce and Christa full 24/7 ownership of the sleepout while Joyce recuperates). She learned I don't hurt her even though I hold her snug and it doesn't take long.
