They are living creatures. They deserve an opportunity. I would hope you could get a couple of extra days by showing proof of your efforts. But who knows these days.I’m hoping we can rehome them this weekend.I don’t know flexible/inflexible the council would be.
Vet. To have the vet kill the cockerel costs $ 200/$400 (?)The zoo will just kill them and feed them to another exhibit.![]()
Most of you may know that I did this as a youth. We would raise ~50 roosters a year so that my family would have 1 chicken a week to eat throughout the year. It was a lot of work and responsibility for me but it was how we fed the family.Vet. To have the vet kill the cockerel costs $ 200/$400 (?)
Zoo. They'll kill him and feed him to the animals.
Rehome. Possible but often they get killed anyway. There is no way of ensuring that he stays alive.
In all but the most unlikey circumstances he's going to end up dead.
You may as well find someone who will kill and process him for you if it's not something you can do yourself and eat him.
Advantages. You've fed him and given him a good life albeit short. Letting anybody else eat him is a terrible waste.
You get to find out what real chicken tastes like. Even if people only do this once they will better understand why those who raise chickens for meat and eggs do what they do.
He'll be dead. He wont care what happens to his body much like I won't care what happens to mine.
I’m hoping we can rehome them this weekend.I don’t know flexible/inflexible the council would be.
They're a good bunch of people. I'm so glad you've had an offerCross your fingers that I have found them a forever home!Thank you for the suggestion of posting to that Aussie page, I had pretty much given up.

That is wonderful news!Joyce is doing extremely well. I have no concerns about her health at all. She has a follow up Tuesday evening and I think Mark will be very pleased with her!
Whatever infection caused her back to feel warmer than Christa's has cleared up. They felt the same temperature a moment ago. She's eating well, her new feathers are coming in well, and she's behaving like a happy, healthy chooky.
It's good to see her thriving again. Janet's looking stronger too, although I doubt she'll ever fully recover. That is wonderful news!![]()
