MJ's little flock

I loved all these pics Stanley is a great rooster. :love I love that the school is also engaged.
Another wonderful evening. What a great stress reliever. Good morning MJ :frow have a great day. btw, you brought back memories of my early days as an Air Force Officer... It was tradition for the senior guys to drink the new guys under the table (this was a long time ago). I cheated... I'd show up early and pay the bar tender $20 and tell him I'd give him a signal when to switch and my drink of choice was gin and tonic... Once signal given, he continued to charge for the gin (others aka extra tip), but provided just tonic. As a young LT I was always the last guy standing, until my boss changed the rules. Then I was just toast. :gig
Uh oh! Sounds like the bartender grassed you up :gig(not an Australianism - I've been watching UK detective programs recently) my uncle was in thr RAAF and he still embraces the drinking lifestyle even though he's in his 70s now.

Shear luck, I guess. Anna chose the Barred Rocks herself and we just constantly handle our chickens. I honestly think they pick up how laid back and drama free we our. I don't yell at them, I've never hit them, the other animals have never threatened them.
I've often thought that too.

Mary was always a wild child, refused to let me touch her. We undertook a course of nighttime gentle interaction for a few days, along with handfeeding and it made a big difference. She still prefers not to be handled, but she tolerates it and when she's free, she'll often be in my company.

That sounds like my Penny. She would rarely let me pick her up; I had to herd her back into the run. That's when I knew she was sick; she let me pick her up and stroke her.

I need to say something.

I feel incredibly fortunate that my life has brought me to this moment of sitting peacefully in a comfy chair on a mild summer evening, a breeze cooling me down and lifting my hair, with five utterly delightful chickens nibbling, preening and snoozing just a few metres away. I wish we had resources for literally everyone to experience such calm and joy.

It's lovely when you get moments like that, and you get that little hit of dopamine to top it off. I love it! :love

Thank you MJ! I'm trying to go easy on myself, but I get so frustrated that I can't do what I used to do.

On the plus side, Stanley did wonderful in school! I'll post some pictures soon. Everyone in the school knew he was coming, he had a greeting committee as soon as we walked in the door.

Stanley LOVED all of the attention. He let some 30 kids pet him at once. They hand fed him treats, and a few were even brave enough to pick him up. He was an absolute gentleman! He also crowed loud and proud many times!

This is a picture Anna's teacher took of her with Stanley. I just love her big smile!
