It's interesting how the hens figure out their own preferencesNot exactly.View attachment 2022286
I knew she was due to start an egg cycle and she's a complete nightmare for outside nests.
She gets this from her grandmother. Her daughter Donk is very cooperative with regard to nesting in coops.
Hi thereGood evening folks![]()
I must admit I'm a meddler. My younger girls were POL going into winter & as it was Lavender & Lottie who generally got left on the lower roost they would have been coldish so I've always moved them up & now everybody roosts together. We've gone from 12 to 8 along there so there is plenty of room.First group shot!

Sandy and Peggy were asleep
They had a rough night with Peggy failing to land on Ivy's roost and then deciding to take her chances on the big girls' roost instead of using her own. So naturally a deluge of pecking rained down on her. Tiring for everyone.
I've put another roosting bar in this morning. Today's new one is between yesterday's and Ivy's roost. I think Peggy will use it to hop up top with Ivy.
If so, the whole flock will thank her.
I would do that too if I weren't anticipating nearly a months' travel in June. I love picking them up! But how would they get by if they're used to being placed on the roost? Best I sort the coop out with enough options for Peggy so they can be independent later.I must admit I'm a meddler.
