MJ's little flock

A question for experienced chickeners

A chicken lays five lovely eggs in five days.

How young could she be? What's your estimate of minimum age?

Young chickens lay more eggs. I would think very young. Aurora has gone 14 straight days now.

How old is your little lady now? 5 in 5 days is a leghorn like performance.

Not that I’ve made a note of it, but it feels like Charlie lays 4-5 days out of every 7 and she’s a year and a bit.

Well, according to what I was told when I collected her, she's 18 weeks old now.

That can't be right, which is why I'm wondering what more experienced people think.

That's really young. I'm not sure that's right. Sansa and Sydney are supposedly 21 weeks old and they are a ways off from even laying.

Look at these combs.

@MaryJanet haven't you complained of a hen on the roof before? Roosting time has been a mess with the newbies. Tonight they all tried the roof. At least I had some help tonight.

Oh crikey! They think it's nice and high up there :hmm

But they need to be inside girls at night time.

My problem was Ivy using the roof of the small coop to get over the fence and wander around outside the yard! You can imagine how I felt when I thought she'd been taken away by a predator. I was relieved to discover her hiding in a corner.

Oh my gosh. 14 on a row! That's far beyond what the hens here manage! Our record holder is Mary, who once managed 9 in a row.
