MJ's little flock

Ivy's tail

It's been three weeks since I deliberately showed Ivy's tail.

It's coming along nicely.

It looks especially good when it's compared to this photo: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/mjs-little-flock.1334809/post-22129008

Thinking back, I realised last night was only Peggy's fourth night in the henhouse and the roosts have changed every night. So she's more than entitled to a little confusion.

It seems like the four levels of roosts will work out, given a few more nights for Peggy to adapt.

On the other hand, I wonder if Mary is moulting? I'm not entirely certain, but I think she dropped a feather over night :gig

Nah MJ. You're imagining things :gig

Oh my gosh. 14 on a row! That's far beyond what the hens here manage! Our record holder is Mary, who once managed 9 in a row.

Just to set the standard, in her second full year of life Daisy, the greatest hen ever, laid 360 eggs in 365 days. To me that is the standard to which all will be measured.

That's terrible Bob. I can't like that.

It's why she died so young. Salpingitis. Such a lovely life snuffed out by over laying.

All my leghorns had tragic lives. One killed by a hawk, 2 from reproductive issues, and one from a sad accident.

However, if you want eggs, they are the standard. IMHO.
