He was a creepy person. I did not feel safe. I don't think Mary would have been safe if I'd left her there.Oh dear. So glad she came home with you!

Totally get it.He was a creepy person. I did not feel safe. I don't think Mary would have been safe if I'd left her there.
Instinct. In moments like that, you trust your gut.Totally get it.
Long time ago when I was a kid (maybe 12), one of our cats had kittens. We advertised for people to come and adopt them.
My Dad professed to hating the cats. He would have given away the cats too. Many rows. Many tears from me because I loved the cats.
Anyway lots of nice people came and took a kitten.
We were down to one.
A couple came for the last kitten and by chance my Dad was out front when they arrived. My mother and I overheard him say to them “No. She is not available. Go elsewhere.”
Then he snatched up the kitten and marched into the house with her.
Needless to say we kept her.
All Dad would ever say about the incident was that the guy seemed like a creepy person. I often wondered what he had said to set Dad off. My Dad was a sort of head-in-the-clouds academic. Not remotely socially sensitive or attuned. So it must have been bad!
Bless you. You saved a life in more ways than one.I don't know if I've ever told that story in full.
I was looking for an Australorp and someone had 'a few' for sale, so I reached out and made a plan for me to come and look at them. When I got there, it was a secluded farm property and it turned out to be a man who lived alone and who had a creepy vibe and who was not a listener, as in he talked non-stop and did not show interest in conversing. I felt vulnerable. He had one chicken left (I assume he'd killed the others). I said I would take her. He grabbed her with unnecessary force and shoved her into a cardboard box. She was terrified. I got us both out of there as fast as I could. It was an hour's drive back to my house and she was so quiet in the car.
Anyway, I have a feeling her long-term swelling in her leg was due to the rough way he handled her. I sometimes wonder if that hernia she had was somehow due to that too.
I'm so proud of her. I think she had a difficult start in life.
There was a distinct sense of urgency as we drove away.Bless you. You saved a life in more ways than one.
Smart. There was a distinct sense of urgency as we drove away.
He may well have been simply a lonely and antisocial man who wouldn't harm a fly, but that creepy vibe was enough for me to keep my distance, be polite, be cold, and get back in the car asap.
