Chicken Palace plan
I hope you weren’t just being polite. Here is the plan for the Chicken Palace.
Covered run #2 has an open run on each side. I can close off access to each of these open runs so I can sow pasture and let it grow. They aren’t open to predators - they will have hardware cloth over them - but open for rain to water the pasture. I plan to alternate sides so that while they are destroying the pasture on one side, the other side is growing.
I will probably switch sides every 3 weeks (depends how fast the pasture seeds grow).

This is how i hoped it would look.

And this is what it looks like now (not quite finished but I am sowing pasture seeds this weekend).

And here are the ladies enjoying their new day roost in covered run #2 (I salvaged some fancy old porch brackets).

That is really nice :) I never thought about about having a "low" run. Its giving me some ideas. Thanks for sharing

Thank you. I am happy it gave you ideas! I think it is turning out way better than I even hoped. I am just in the process of fixing the hardware cloth to the top (which is a laborious task with many cut fingers). I didn’t get to sow the pasture last weekend but hope to this week on the one side that is nearly done.

Yours is a most impressive well thought out coop design. You definately have an eye for this and are very creative.

I've got a chicken question and I'm hoping folks will chip in with some answers.

Is it true that a pullet grows her stiff tail feathers at 20-22 weeks?
That feels right. I can check photos if you want. You mind me asking why the question? Is someone missing theirs?

Oh, please don't go to that much trouble.

No, I'm just trying to get a stronger sense of Ivy's age. If it's true, then she's around 26 weeks.
