MJ's little flock

They are rather lumpy bumpy aren't they? Sort of thickened.

The picture from the back reminds me of varicose veins. 🤔

What do her legs feel like? Hot? Hard or soft where the "growths" are? Does she show discomfort when you touch them?

Let us know if you find out what it is. It's a real stumper.
Her legs feel normal. The bumps are hard but not bone. I can't say with any certainty about the discomfort because she doesn't like being touch anyway. When I do her legs for SLG, I apply the Vaseline with a soft brush and sort of paste it on with that; and it's done at night which means their reactions are different.

Tap this morning. She made a dash for the house in between the showers.

This is Lock. She's the hen that doesn't lay eggs and crows now and then. She's also the hen that has leg problems I'm struggling with. The picture should be clear enough when full size (click on image) to see what I'm on about. One leg in particular seems to have a strange growth.
Her legs don't seem to bother her now that the scaly leg mite is getting treated but they just don't look right.

Those legs are quite thick and a little lumpy. I can see why you are concerned about her.

Chicken update

Well. Today Ivy did a proper grown up hen stamp and squat when Janet startled her.

Speaking of Janet, she's struggling through her moult :(she looks thin and pale. She's eating well, but it's not converting into weight. I'll start giving her salmon eggs twice a week and hope she fills out a little.

On the other hand, Mary is doing very well. Big and bonny.

Peggy is moulting too, but not as hard as Janet. She's a little scruffy, but otherwise fine n dandy. :)

So really, all is well. That's great. A little help for Janet is in order but all good. That's great news.

All seems well.

I'm no expert, but I think they're tootling along just fine, except for Janet. What do you do when a hen is poorly during her moult? Any tips?
