MJ's little flock

This is Lock. She's the hen that doesn't lay eggs and crows now and then. She's also the hen that has leg problems I'm struggling with. The picture should be clear enough when full size (click on image) to see what I'm on about. One leg in particular seems to have a strange growth.
Her legs don't seem to bother her now that the scaly leg mite is getting treated but they just don't look right.

That's very strange Shad. It's like she's got too much bone or something.

If that's the normal shape of her leg, no wonder she's susceptible to mites.
For some unknown reason some of the bantams are very prone to problems with scaly leg mite. Some of the cross breeds with I assume the responsible genes get it to. Tribe 1 the Marans rarely have SLM. Given over time they all visit the same territory and have the same standard of coop hygiene I find it hard to believe it's an environmental issue.

They are rather lumpy bumpy aren't they? Sort of thickened.

The picture from the back reminds me of varicose veins. 🤔

What do her legs feel like? Hot? Hard or soft where the "growths" are? Does she show discomfort when you touch them?

Let us know if you find out what it is. It's a real stumper.

Agreed. It's not environmental in this instance. Susceptibility is definitely playing a part.

Hello! For a change, I'm still up to greet you! What have you planned for the day?
For me it will be a cleaning morning and then maybe make some chocolate chip cookies 😋 they don't last long here. Can't wait to go on my walks again just need to make sure to stay away from all the poison ivy 😬
