MJ's little flock

There seems to be a belief in many people that they have a right to be made happy. It wasn't like this when I was young. Happiness has become an expectation, which is rather concerning given the nebulous concept the word tries to encompass. Advertising and marketing are partly to blame, as are many of the ideologies people subscribe to.
It's bit like the whole 'lets all just be nice' idea which the British have been practicing for years. Unfortunately being nice doesn't change anything. It has meant in many circumstances that the same injustices continue to exist because people either can't cope with conflict or can't be bothered to examine the evidence of what goes on around them.
There are plenty of people who are 'nice' while they steal your money, exploit your endeavors and abuse the others around them.
I'm really very anti nice.

I actually like it that you mean what you say, Shad. I have experienced the ‘British politeness’ for myself, where something is said to be polite but the total opposite was meant. It made me really cranky because as an Australian, we tend to say what we mean. Fortunately the younger generations seemed not to do that, maybe it’s an older generation thing and it’s dying out.

I'm not only an Aussie, I'm a Scots Aussie. The filter tends to get lost. :gig

I saw plenty of that in the UK.

I could not agree more. I spent a lot of time teaching my girls that your happiness is your responsibility. The lesson seems to have stuck so far.

I worry about a society where you are entitled to happiness as well.
The funny thing is, there are some genuinely entitled people eg people with disabilities or the aged, who never seem to receive what they genuinely need to survive.

While others complain because dad didn't buy them any noise cancelling headphones for the flight to London  or whatever.
