MJ's little flock

Downton Abbey, It was pretty but the writing... Only two characters were done justice. There were sooo many plotlines and the action was spread very thin. At times it bordered on pastiche and panto. Two stars. One for the nostalgia and one for its prettiness. No chickens spotted.

Oh. :( That's disappointing. I haven't watched the series but thought the movie might be worth a look. Pity as they have some truly great actors.

Aunty Chris and I were big fans of the series which I watched all the way through more than once. I thought I'd really enjoy the movie, but I found myself cringing several times. But it was prettier than any of the series was. They made great use of sunsets and sunrises, and the pile itself was a bigger focus than in the series. Lots of misty-eyed old England too, with a military parade and the royal family forming an over-arching plot framework for all those little plots to hang from.
