She's panting in the heat (they all are), which was 40C when the photo was taken, but sensibly keeping to the afternoon shade.

While her face is rather more pink than red, at least it's not discoloured and she's not using her pain posture. She may be pink from the heat. Even Janet is more pink than red today.

I'll see how they look first thing in the morning.

Such a shame about her beak. She looks a bit on the thin side.
I don't know her story.

He trained in horticulture. Our 2nd home business is actually plant based ~ mostly air plants & some water plants as the man broke his back about 20 years ago & most heavy gardening is now beyond him. I usually do any digging that need to be done.

I love air plants! Do you sell them in special containers? I'd like to buy a few, do you have a website?

We can't sell overseas due to import & export restrictions here. He is using ebay @ present as we haven't got his website up & running yet. I'm not that computer savvy & the man even less so. If you'd like to have a look though feel free. Here's a link to his store:

I need one of them horticulturists here.
There is a witch who lives a couple of farms down the track. She's lived here all her life.
Her knowledge of what grows here, when and where, is astounding. She's been herbalising people around her for years.
I was really surprised when I've walked in the woods with her how much she knew about trees as well.

I garden, he horticulturalists! He knows heaps more than I do but we go about things very differently.

I agree on both points. She's been very unwell lately which might explain her size, but she's always been too thin in my opinion.

I know very little of her history. She was an adult hen, laying slower than you'd expect for a commercial layer, when she was brought to live here. She was found walking the streets about 15km away and they couldn't find her people, so I said I'd provide a home.

She was bonny when she moved in but for a few months she was quite brutally picked on by Janet the barnevelder. There are very few pecks these days, although Janet still chases her away from treats and pecks once or twice (without touching) at roosting time.

Sandy came down with a tenacious bacterial infection, from which I surmise she was on prophylactic antibiotics before she was found. She's had two treatments. The first was lincospectin for five days. The infection appeared to clear up but came back. The second was a course of amoxycillin injected over five days.

She's been ok since then, but not yet thriving.

If her infection comes back, she'll have a hysterectomy.

I take the chooks to a bird specialist vet. They're pets, not livestock, and a key element in my stress management.

It really is! I don't drink alcohol during the year. The exception being if I've gone to eat at someone elses house to eat, then I'll have half a glass of wine.
Christmas I drink; not rolling drunk, but over the week between Christmas day and the new year I'll drink a bottle of good Scotch whiskey.
I am apparently difficult to buy presents for with my edible or hand made restrictions.
I get given whiskey most years. I've got a bit of a stock now.

I never drink unless I have a pesky throat infection. Alcohol is a dab hand @ killing throat germs!
