It would be handy if the feather picking is all over now. I think once chickens are settled and 'happy' an awful lot of bad behaviour stops. I read some of the bad behaviour posts here and a bit further into the thread you get more detail and I often think, I would behave badly if I had to live like that.

Good evening folks :frow

I often get inquiries this time of year looking for day old chicks, I tell them to contact me in April. You'd be amazed how many think that's absurd. My girls aren't laying now and I won't fire up the incubator until the second week of April. My primary heat source in the winter is the wood stove and temps fluctuate way too much for the incubator to manage.

Funny how that stuff doesn't bother the hens here.:p:p

Cillin had successfully moved his entire tribe to the car port when Tackle decided it was time for a dust bath. Cillin tried the herding shuffle, then even pecked Tackle; she didn't budge.
So here he is tapping his toes with impatience waiting for Tackle to get out of the bath!

Knock and chicks out and about. After knocks last hatch which was in what was Notch's coop before he moved in with Donk and Myth after the death of Gedit, she had the chicks out on day three and ranged quite a distance. This hatch she's been very cautious. It's only been in the last couple of days she's spent more time out and about than in the run.

What interesting looking hens you do have. Knock almost looks like some of the mille fleurs I have seen. Or the Swedish flower hens. The speckling is very pretty I think.

I haven't seen Peggy pick at Ivy's feathers for nine days. However, if she finds a feather on the ground, eg a pigeon feather, she eats it but not as often as she used to, even though there are plenty of them lying around.

She seems happy and cheerful. She eats lots of proper food and she loves a lengthy drink at the dispenser.

Mary has started to defend her. Three times I've seen Mary intervene when Sandy is sitting on Peggy and pecking her, even though Peggy has bowed and said "You're the boss Aunty Sandy!" This is new behaviour from Mary and Sandy. Mary allows Sandy to dominate Peggy, but not excessively.

See, that's a helpful response.

But ignoring people makes matters worse, they'll go from email to text to call to calling again, and again. If I get a helpful answer first time around, then I know where I stand and I change my plans.
