MJ's little flock

Recently I made a change to opening up Tribe 1 in the morning. I used to open the pop door and out they would tumble. Having two roosters and a cockerel in such a small space has meant that they still tumble out, but often with the boys attached to each other.
Despite her size, Fat Bird gets stressed by all the fighting and random necks grabs from the cockerels in particular. Strange when on thinks Mel who is half Fat Birds size just batters the boys if they come anywhere near her without permission.
So I've been opening the large human access door at the back of the coop in the mornings recently. While they still tend to erupt out of the coop, those not participating in the morning melee can dodge around the sides and make their getaway.
Fat Bird waits for everyone to leave and then stands right on the edge waiting. I've known Fat Bird for ten years now. She was the first hen to accept me as an escort. Basically what she wants is safe passage to the duck sheds where they have breakfast. Cillin does wait for her for a while but it all kicks off somewhere between the coop and the ducks sheds and he rushes off to sort it out.
I now carry Fat Bird to the duck sheds in the morning and put her down next to Cillin. It seems this is what she now expects. It's fine, I go to the duck shed after the coop anyway. One very strange thing though is Fat Bird doesn't often do the post matting shake after I've carried her.

She has trained you well Shad. You are not a rooster to her, you are her personal ladies maid

This is so sweet. I have had to pick up Phyllis and take her to the rest of the flock a couple of times. I can't imagine having that kind of routine interaction with mine. You are lucky that she trusts you so.
