MJ's little flock

I was wondering about establishing a show class for longevity and good health.

Best hen with chicks, over 7 years.

Best hen with chicks, over 10 years.

And age classes for single hens, single roosters, and breeding trios.

I am a fan of that. I like that idea.

Years ago I hybridized Streptocarpus plants from the gesneriad family (like African Violets etc)

The only way to get them into Australia was to send seeds- my Aussie friend sent seeds and I sent my hybrid seeds to him. His developed into yellow flowered plants which were in great demand in USA.

The seeds I sent him were green & white varigated leaves (don't recall the flower color) so we each got something special from the trade.

Can't remember his last name but first name was Charles and he was a Civil War re-inactivater actor among others.

It's a very difficult problem to tackle. Here on BYC a start could be made by the Educators in theory but they become part of the industry by default. An Educator that writes don't buy hatchery stock, don't feed commercial feed, don't deal with untested and untried breeders won't last long.

I get your point Shad, but an Educator that says "don't" isn't much of an Educator. Education requires being guided in what to do. ;)
