MJ's little flock

Yep, lots of feathers in white red and black. So that's Tsuki, Deanna and Edwina or possibly Pepper although Pepper's feathers are looking quite neat.
How hard does Tsuki molt? None of my leghorns ever went through a "hard" molt.
I never saw a hard molt until Patsy joined us. Here is Patsy's last molt with Daisy, the greatest hen ever, along side her. They were both molting. If you zoom in on Daisy you can see the bright white feathers that replaced the dingy yellow ones.

Poor Patsy, that does look uncomfortable.

Tsuki's last moult was a big one. All of her neck, chest and bum. She seems to have just lost her tail feathers so far.

I'm sorry to hear that. That was actually pretty mild for Patsy. She would wind up almost naked. Somehow she never let it slow her down. Somewhere I have video of her digging in the garden in full molt. If I can run it down I will post. What a trooper she was.

Do you normally work on a Sunday?
It depends on how much I've undertaken. At present loads of work is moving online instead of face to face so I've got a lot to do in that transition. Re-thinking methods, leading the team, documenting decisions etc. Under normal circumstances I work right through weekends about 10 times a year. I don't like doint it because I feel like I'm taking employment from other people.

Look how close together they are! Lovely!

I'm envious, my girls still tend to go around in separate groups.

Is that big, broken terracotta pot serving some clever purpose? Do share.
I put it there to act as a pullet hidey hole but they only just realised it was there and now they're too big to fit in it. So I'll add it to the pile of busted bits soon.

That qualifies as a hard molt in my book. My leghorns never looked like that. They all molted mildly.
Mary molts quite thoroughly, but she does it waves over a long period. Fluff first, then head and neck, wings, tail. She's working on her tail at present.

I've got 2 in a hard molt just now. Lavender is back on a roost. During the worst of her molt she couldn't manage to get up on anything so has been roosting in a nesting box. :( Suyin has got very thin with her molt. I'm a bit worried about her but she is acting her normal rowdy self so I guess she's ok.

She might need food? Can she take special meals in the little coop?
