MJ's little flock

Hi CCCL! :frow

We are good over here. Alice has just been through the biggest moult I've ever seen and has most of her feathers back just as the weather is getting really cold.

Hope you are doing well?

I'm doing well!! I should be back to work in about 2 weeks. I'll be glad to get back to normalish...

Rich surprised me yesterday and I got 4 lavender orpingtons!! I'm so excited!!

I think we were posting at the same time Shad. Mashes were my first thought when I realised the little ones couldn't manage dry pellets. The older hens enjoy a mash too, so it's been a good thing for all of them. Once I know for sure Peggy's eating dry pellets too, i may slowly cut back on the mashes.
Do you not have crumble feed where you are? I feed mine crumble so it takes them longer to eat it. It makes a little more mess but no matter the size of the chicken they are able to eat it,

I do crumble too, Bob. My breeder told me it is harder for them to only pick out what they like & it makes for a quicker mash. I like to mix it up for them but @ the start of the lockdown I couldn't get my regular feed & went with something else only to find everything no~one liked got left behind. It was very wasteful! :(

The old and the young eying each other up. They seem to get on in a strange way. Moon it seems has enough Marans in her to be acceptable to Fat Bird. Compared to her sister Tap, Moon is much more Marans shaped and of course she lays very dark eggs. They've been around for a couple of hours together recently. Fat Bird arrives with the tribe but can't be bothered to run around after them and later, Treacle turns up with Moon.

I think there's crumble in the grain mix - I'll edit this post later to add a photo. For mashing i put a handful of grain mix with a handful of pellets.

This is Lock. We are having terrible problems with her legs. She has some scaly leg mite but there is also another problem and I'm not sure what it is. Initially I thought it was straw itch mite but she perches at night. I've been doing her legs every other night much to her disgust.
