MJ's little flock

It can be quite difficult to get the males to eat any treats. Most of the time they will drop them and give the I've found food call hoping to attract a hen or two. This is okay with the senior roosters but with the juniors it also attracts the senior roosters who chase the juniors away.
Treacle and Notch will drop the food for me it seems. I have to walk away before they will eat.
A partial solution is to feed the males very small pieces. They seem to think that such small offerings are not going to give them many points with the hens so they may as well eat them. Give them half a walnut and one would think they had just dug up a pot of gold.:D

The more I know about chickens, the more I want to know! :love I agree with @BY Bob about them being gentlemanly.

That is really interesting. I would assume they know what the ladies want most and what gives them the biggest increase in points with them. I do love how roosters give priority to their hens. It's quite gentlemanly.
It would be nice to think of it as gentlemanly behaviour but it's entirely selfish.:p No hens, no sex and no kids. What is interesting to watch is the transformation from the stage where cockerels and roosters think they can jump on any hen, to the realisation that they have to persuade the hens to stick with them.

I think perhaps gentlemanly conduct in humans serves similar purposes. Although I won't underestimate the influence of sheer tenderness.

I missed your mesage, sorry. I'm still too busy and behind on so much. But I'm trying to cut back on hours at the desk and I think the worst is over.
We just had to let 40 folks go due to budget constraints. Today I got to discover how much of their workload I'll need to absorb. Good news is that most of it won't happen as there's no funds to buy consultants and temp employees.
