MJ's little flock

We just had to let 40 folks go due to budget constraints. Today I got to discover how much of their workload I'll need to absorb. Good news is that most of it won't happen as there's no funds to buy consultants and temp employees.
When that's the good news things are really bad.

When educated folks lose jobs it makes me wonder how the uneducated are going to cope.
I figure that the net impact of this could be the long term losses of up to 50% of all food service jobs. Restaurants will have to cut capacity by 50% in order to keep us far enough apart. I am terribly afraid of what happens to all of those employees.

Is your government doing anything to keep such businesses from crashing? Our's started a funding programme called jobkeeper which gives wages to employers, which employers pass on to staff. It keeps businesses going and workers can keep their jobs and be paid even though they're not allowed to do any work at present - it's going to save much of Australia's hospitality industry, although I know of some small businesses that don't qualify for it so they've had to sack people. In that case, people who are sacked apply for jobseeker which carries expectations of applying for so many jobs a week - although I think some of the mutual obligation constraints have been relaxed during the pandemic. I think there are various other grants etc available to small business during the pandemic too. At least once this thing's over many small businesses can reopen doors and kick off again.
