I may never recover from that moment. It seriously melted my heart.I must get myself a roosting hat!
Seriously it was very sweet that ned decided you were flock and that roosting with you was his best bet for safety.

They do have a tendency to make a mess if you leave them up there too long.Make sure it has a wide brim!![]()
Look at that! A nest on the ground. Great idea.I just found one of Janet's eggs in a "new" nest. It must've been laid over the weekend because I collected an egg from her on Thursday. The nest is an old cane laundry basket which we decided was no longer required for laundry purposes. So I laid it down, chocked it in place with a couple of branches and a brick, and threw straw in there about six months ago. I'd noticed Janet popping in and out and I'm glad she's given it the egg of approval at last

Oh, I love seeing your hens, no matter the thread!
With everyone but Suyin now laying I am averaging 8-10 eggs a day. I was expecting my nearly 4 yr old BRs to start dropping off but they are showing no signs so far.

Sorry MJ this was meant to go on my thread but I'm on my phone & have now got myself in a muddle. Apologies.
She is a very interesting looking hen. Did her mother have that coloring? The one and only Donk. I've spent more time looking for Donk than I have for any other hen.
Donk is as wild as they come. I beleive she could easily survive on what she can forage. She will eat things that other hens won't.
She's a stocky little hen so it's quite surprising she holds the longest flight record here. I have never managed to catch her during the day. She's lighting fast. She'll happily eat out of my hand. She'll often come and bug me for treats.
Both her mother, Dink and her grandmother cheepy were on the wild side. Donk's mum Dink holds the undiscovered nest record here and is the only other hen apart from Mel who I know has fought a Goshawk and lived to tell the tale.
