MJ's little flock

I think I have joined the broody club.

Pepper has been in the nesting box for the last 5 hours fluffed up like a fluffy, angry pancake.
There were 3 eggs under her when I checked, including one of her own.:hmm

Anyway, here is today's haul. After the two weird eggs that Edwina laid yesterday, her egg today looks perfectly normal.

Will she be your first broody hen?

Beautiful! And I love the daffodil place mat.
Also appreciate the strategy of moving the mess out of shot - definitely my strategy for every day activity!

So beautifully displayed. You also have a really nice assortment of eggs as well. I'm glad Edwina has laid a normal egg to settle that anxiety.

Ivy has not come off the nest at all today :( she must be hungry by now. Maybe she'll get up early tomorrow.

She allowed me to remove two eggs: Mary's and Peggy's.

For what it's worth, if Mary lays an egg tomorrow she will have regained the laying honours with 13 eggs in 13 days.
I would not have predicted Mary beating out those youngins again. Kudos to you Mary. :clap

I think for sure ACM would have had broodies before because she's had chickens for years. Ivy is my third. The first was Mary, the second was Peggy. For them, I followed conventional wisdom and lifted off the nest and onto the roosts at night. But Peggy fought hard and I got the idea I was doing her a cruelty. So I'm trying to find a gentler way now Ivy's broody.

Mary did it! She took the blue ribbon from Ivy with 13 eggs in 13 days. I guess she's making up for all that time off.
