MJ's little flock

So...anyone want to take a guess if they are girls or boys? Haha. Not the best pics, they move so darn fast!
The speckled is smaller and is just getting his/her tail feathers now so I’m guessing she’s a little younger than the light 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️
Only having ISA’s before, I never had to worry about getting a rooster by mistake 😅

They look like pullets to me, but I’ve not had experience with cockerels/roosters. @Kris5902, @Shadrach, @CrazyChookChookLady, can you help us out here please?

🥁 the egg tally for 2020 is...

538 eggs!

Well done chookies!
Well done chookies indeed! And well done MJ for documentation. Since the lash eggs in September I have put a calendar into the Chicken Palace with a pencil so I at least record how many, but I haven't figured how to reliably know whose egg is whose!

I keep mine in a little enamelware bucket on the kitchen counter. Whenever I use the oven, after I turn it off I put the bucket in the oven while it cools down.
Then when it is all cool I put them in a plastic canister and shake it so they crumble and store them in the coop until it is time to top up their dish.
They usually then scatter them all over the place and entertain themselves finding little pieces in the bedding on the coop floor. Table manners has never been their strong suit! :lau
Wait. Yours crumble after you bake them? I've been bashing mine with a rolling pin to break them up... 😑

I know right!?!?

On hot days I've been using the sprinkler to establish an evaporative cooling system around the little coop where the nest box is. They sit in there, listening to the "rain" on the roof and thinking, "weather's very cold today, very cold for summer. Maybe get up? No. Stay sit."

One of the many reasons I'm looking forward to the big new run going up next week is that it will enclose the little coop and I'll be able to use a misting system instead of the sprinkler (much, much less water waste).
Next week! :eek::wee:ya

One of the benefits of baking them is they crumble much more easily. I think it is because the membranes are all baked away.
I squeeze them with my hand as I transfer them from the enamel bucket (where I collected them and baked them) and that does most of the crumbling, and then a good shake in the plastic container does the rest. Easy. Mind you, I don't aim for powder, it is still little pieces. But nothing bigger than say a cornflake and mostly smaller.

Hello @Scrambles83 thank you for showing us your flock. Do they have names?

A parcel arrived for Hubby today and it was my belated Xmas present.

He got me the hardcover with the leghorn! :wee Thank you Hubby!

Chicken for scale and comparison. :D
