Following from this...One of the reasons chicken care has been challenging lately is that, without an enclosure the hens are at risk of tempting passing dogs, most of whom are on leashes - it's the loose ones i worry about. So I'm encouraging the hens to spend time in the back porch where dogs won't dare to go.
The sooner the hens have their own space again, the better.
Good for you MJ!It mostly comes from within. I have colleagues who hate it but these days I refuse to be drawn into negativity.
Oh my heart!Following from this...
I'm recuperating from a very stressful hour.
I couldn't find the hens. I called out to the neighbour who joined the hunt. We searched everywhere. I called and called.
I thought dogs had taken them.
I thought hawks had taken them.
Neither. They had taken a walk and were found two houses up the street, under a hedge, digging for bugs.
To get them home, I walked up front with a lettuce and the neighbour herded from behind.
They're in their small temporary yard for the rest of the day.
Now I need a hour or two to regenerate my joy.
For today and tomorrow, I can expand the small temporary yard by adding three more puppy playpen panels to its fenceline.Oh my heart! What a nice neighbour you have MJ.
Can you put up a temporary chicken wire fence at the side of the house or something?
Oh my goodness - I can only imagine how panicky I would be. I am so glad you got them home and that they got to have a little outing without any harm (apart from the harm to your nerves of course!).Following from this...

That sounds very wise. For today and tomorrow, I can expand the small temporary yard by adding three more puppy playpen panels to its fenceline.
If the new run is not finished tomorrow, I'm going to make a fence of sorts across the driveway.
good idea !That sounds very wise.
Also, if the Lady Tradies get some of the wire on the fun run but not all of it, maybe you can temporarily use the dog panels or any other netting to close off the rest until they are finished.
