Yup, where I live there is a lot of clay soil, we often add sand to it to help break it up, then compost/organic material.Do you mean mix the sand and the clay together?
And add compost to that? (I gotta tell you, I have a great supply of compost!)

Well I have nothing to lose by trying.Yup, where I live there is a lot of clay soil, we often add sand to it to help break it up, then compost/organic material.
Ditto. I skip a lot of the fluff which eats up oceans of time & try to focus on important/and or interesting/&/ or helpful.I'm the same. I just can't keep up with everything without giving up sleep, so I focus on what's new and try not to think about what I've missed.
We have heavy clay soil too. I dig a bigger than needed hole then add potting mix to put the plant in. This gives the plant a softer soil to establish in before having to break up the heavy clay.Well I have nothing to lose by trying.
should I add any topsoil? Even if just in the plant bed itself?
Won't hurt, we do the general soil prep often in the fall/winter and then do as Ribh said, filling the dug hole with potting soil or soil mixed at least.Well I have nothing to lose by trying.

She has earned this treatment. Let her complain. She will not find sympathy here.More Donk and Knock. Myth is off the eggs now due to me stealing them and is a bit up the track with Notch. Myth is giving Notch a right ear bashing about how unfair life is etc etc. I would love to give her another chance at hatching but just can't face the horror if it all goes wrong. It was truely horrible last time.

I have to say I don't think I've seen a photo of these two together alone in a long time. Very sweet. Two friends spending a little time on a slow Saturday morningthe other two are in the nest.

Poor Mary hasn't grown her fresh feathers in yet. At least it was a light moult this time. She seemed to lose about 20% of her feathers. Usually it's around 60% in Mary's case.
That's awesome! One of my friends sent me this.

I'm pretty sure that's Janet driving the car, Peggy wearing a helmet and Mary on the right with Ivy behind her in the distance.
