I think they prefer to eat off the ground cuz it’s like when they forage.. scratching and digging in the dirt for bugs and whatnot... mine love it when I fling the food out of the feeders for them to enjoy off the ground... they eat it all up!

I agree with this. Something to do with the sensory things in the beak.

It was so windy last night the tree across the street blew down, snapped the stobie pole off at the base, and brought down live power lines.

Blossom is not allowed out until it's all fixed.

I took a photo of the fallen tree.

It looks very sad lying on the road. Poor old tree.

That is really lovely, MJ! And with my very favourite little milk jug. I can't help it. It is just adorable & I get a jolt of pleasure every time you display it.

Have I mentioned it has a matching sugar bowl? A very cute pair.

I'm going to start a new habit of tossing pellets on the ground every morning.

I'm going to start a new habit of tossing pellets on the ground every morning.

Just be careful. Remember things like Cocci & worms live in the soil & eating off the ground is one way chooks pick these things up. It's not like they're wild & always moving onto fresh ground. It's one reason for those expensive feeders we all invest in.
