Well, less than an hour after I became worried enough to ask for advice, Peggy decided for herself she'd better get up and take a bath.

So I haven't intervened other than tossing food down for her, getting a photo of her eggs, and watching her.

This time the Jan 4 egg is top left and label down.

She's been busy while I've been tapping this post into my phone.

Eating.

Hopping up beside Ivy and having a good scratch.

And an epic preen.

The preen is ongoing.

She hasn't had a drink yet (unless she sneaked it in before I heard her call out) so I'll stay here in the run until she goes back to her eggs.

I took Phyllis out of the coop. You can see in the video that she was tranced and had to wake up. I take it Peggy is not tranced when you removed her.

Something just occurred to me. Are you watching her all day. Do you know that she is not getting up? I had the camera trained on Phyllis so that I knew she wasn't getting up.

No, I don't know for sure. Every day I'm away from home for a couple of hours so she may well have been getting up without me knowing about it.

In other chicken-related news, the paving man is coming to take a look at the chicken run today to make me a quote to pave the perimeter path.

I'm relieved. And I'm glad she knows what to do because I'd rather let nature take its course (to the extent possible in a backyard) than intervene.
