MJ's little flock

Ugh. How upsetting.
That said, the sewing thread is not totally terrible - she was at least trying to help them. If she boiled the thread to sterilize it (doubtful) I would take my hat off to her!
Well, that's good to know. I'm sure she'd have said if she'd sterilised it, and she didn't say.

I still think the dog ought to have been kept away from the hens. Maybe she didn't know her pet dog was a hunter at heart.

And I can hear Peggy chittering away as she lays her egg in the laundry basket.

Friends, what do you think of an L-shaped roost?
I have two roosts at the same height in an L shape and another two the same length as each other, also the same height, that is more like two sides of a square.
The ones that are two sides of a square are a big hit in the day time. That seems to be where all the gossip is shared. Two Princesses on each roost chatting endlessly.
The L-shaped one acts more as a passing place because of the placement of the ladder.
For some reason I can't find any decent photos of that set up - I can try and take some tomorrow if it isn't snowing too hard.

From what you describe, it seems like it might be a practical option.

It's also good to learn about the two sides of a square perches for daytime chats.

Roadrunners on the right side, Maggie and Diana on the left, all facing into the middle so they can hear all the news. It is where they head right after breakfast.
Never varies!
Creatures of habit my Princesses.
