MJ's little flock

I have done periods of working with a weekly commute. I am happy to talk off line if you are seriously considering it.
I found that it was OK for a short period but it became very draining and quite unsettling after a while.
A Sunday to Friday rhythm is particularly draining. Monday evening to Friday morning is just about sustainable.

ETA - to clarify, I meant a weekly commute by plane.
I won't leave the hens in their run for so long and asking the neighbours to take on almost full time pet care for the foreseeable future is an imposition I won't suggest. Moving to Sydney is likewise out of the question - I live in great-grandfathers house and that's the right thing for me to do.

Oh, by airplane. For me, that would get old fast.

I've flown over a million miles on American airlines alone. It's a tough business to be a business flyer. Not like @featherhead007 pleasure flights at all.
I've done a lot of flying for work too, but not weekly. It gets old fast but for the right work I'd consider it IF there were no chickens and cat to think of.

It's luck Bob. Good luck that Ivy, Peggy and Mary are so robust. In the same way Loz had bad luck with her hens.
I suppose that's part of it. Great support from your vet helps too. But in the end you are their keeper and you are giving them an amazing life.

Wow. That's not a simple commute. Living out of hotels is not fun either. It to gets old. Would you get an apartment?
Well no, because I won't be doing it at all. But I have friends in Sydney I could reach out to and perhaps rent a room from.

The right job in Adelaide will turn up, it's just a matter of waiting for it.

Yes, but Loz does all that too and still has suffered a lot of loss.

I was lucky with respect to the hens themselves, and she wasn't.
