No worries at all! I'm sure you could get one from a vet supplies place. I've thrown it out now, to fade from my mind.

Hmmm I guess I'll just have to wait until Edie either crows or lays an egg.

But I don't think her feathers are very pointed.

I'm crossing my fingers that Bella is a pullet.

Pegsy is broody. As far as I can tell, she's been on the nest all day.

I don't think sitting is good for her because she needs to eat at least a little of her special liver-supporting diet every day and that's not feasible when she's left to her own devices. I really shouldn't have let her sit last year.

So I've been relying on the red marauders to get her off the nest at the end of the day, then she comes out of the run for a quick bath and snacks. During which I shut the run and wait patiently until she roosts with her friends for the night.

It shouldn't take long to dissuade her, but who knows what the little rascal has in mind?

It took three nights in broody jail for Snowy to stop being broody. But I could shut her out of the nests all day because no-one was laying.

Broody jails seem to go against nature to me, whereas being kicked off the nest by a Red Marauder is a little more like real life. But, many, many people use the broody jail method.

So far, I've found roosting at night to be a sufficient deterrent, but that's when a hen has already sat for a long enough to have hatched.

I don't know how it will go with Peggy.

I absolutely hated broody jail when Charlie was in there almost all day and night for a couple of days straight. This time Snowy was out all day, but had no access to a nest, and I just put her in the bathroom at night.

Well, they've given me her remains. I'll buy a garden plant on the way home and plant it above her so her burial place is not forgotten.
