MJ's little flock

We don’t really have those kinds of snakes.
It was so sudden she didn’t even have any end of life spasms or flapping. She was pretty much sitting in the exact same position I had seen her in a bit earlier when she told me to go away.
I thought she was maybe going broody and wanted to stay on the nest. I almost missed that she wasn’t just sitting really still when I went to lock up.
The flock and I will miss her. She was a stabilizing influence.
I’m so sorry to hear about Babs. :hugs

It seems it was an extraordinarily comfy death for her.

I've set up Katie's Koop with a new sawhorse for roosting, fresh sawdust for comfy feet, two feeders, and her favourite stoneware drinker. My grand plan is relocate both Katie and Christa after dark. Mainly because Christa has been known to tolerate Katie eating nearby food and they like roosting together.

I'm glad I kept the big coop. No doubt this is the first of many occasions on which it's very handy.

I love that!
Sometimes mine do that sunbathing. The sun comes out and they all just drop to the ground wherever they happen to be.
It is hilarious.
Yet more proof, if any were needed, that chicken TV is way more entertaining than any other kind of TV.

Look at them all! So happy. 😃

Aren't they wonderful!

Quick, get in the dust before it's mud again!
But I had my bath already, over there.
Doesn't count! Get in this bath.

Katie's beginning to settle in to the new roosting arrangements. Last night I switched her roosting buddy from Christa to Edie. Things like that can make matters worse, but in this case, it made an improvement. Christa simply couldn't be bothered with Katie's flighty nonsense and very gently told her so, which Katie catastrophised. Edie has been a stoic, gentle giant. Also last night, the neighbour gently removed Katie's dressing while I held her. So that job's done too.

Until Katie's weight improves, I'll continue with all the hens going to roost together, then relocating Katie and Edie after dark. They were both eating from the feeders this morning.
