I picked another small handful of metal from the chicken run yesterday and then a very small handful from the area between the house and the run. I'm keeping the magnet in the back porch because it's so handy there and I'll keep using it every day until it doesn't find anything.

Today's takings are from the driveway where the hens like to sit under the shady tree.

4 galvanised nails, 3 rusty nails and some shards.

One of my colleagues suggested I test the eggs for metals. I'd rather not, but I'm putting it to the brains trust.

Here it was in the news that many BYC eggs contain too much PFas. Not for the safety of the chickens, but for the people who eat BYC eggs. Some people with BYC have tested for PFAs since, costs about €260. For double the price they have a test for PFAS , all kind of metals and other pollution in the soil too. Meant for gardeners.

I haven’t done that so far because of the costs and I have no children eating my eggs regularly. But maybe it is a good idea to combine it with a neighbour. For 1/2 the price it makes more sense to have it tested. They test 10 large / 12 small numbered eggs in one test.
