MJ's little flock

@BY Bob and @RoyalChick I think your advice to get a magnetic sweeper was among the best chickening advice I've ever had. Up there with Shadrach telling everyone to work with chickens at night with a head lamp and how to pick them up from below.

I won't continue sharing photos of the finds because I imagine one pile of rusty metal is enough for anyone's viewing pleasure which means I've already overshared 🤣

But I plan to continue using it daily until the back and front yards are cleared.

That said, if I find anything of interest, I'll probably pipe up again! I'm vaguely hoping mum's engagement ring might turn up, but I've always put her "I lost it in the garden" story down as a cover up for having hocked it.
You'll be out in the fields looking for treasure next.

Ok, Katie's kidney function is within normal range now, but there remains concern about her weight, which was 2.5kg at her very first appointment. So she's to continue on the separate breakfasts routine for 3 months or until her weight is 2.4-2.5kg. I'll start weighing her every two weeks.

If she loses weight again, I'll call to make an appointment. Otherwise her next follow up is October 3.

Another fine haul from 5 minutes' sweeping with the magnet.

Am I nuts or is that a horse shoe nail on the left?
Next sweep will get the horseshoe.
My Princesses dug up a very old and very rusty horseshoe and I mounted it in the Chicken Palace to bring them luck.

That is great news!

Super good news that the kidneys are working well again!

We spoke to Dr Louise and she said there may be some microscopic damage but the enzyme levels are normal. Whether Katie can regain weight is the question that will reveal any lasting effects of her acute kidney injury.

I'm hopeful Katie will make a good recovery. Right now, she and Edie are tucking in to bowls of seventeen with salmon mixed through and a dollop of cottage cheese on top. They'll have access to seventeen all day.
