MJ's little flock

Today was one of those rare days when the hens were kept in all day. Edie and Katie were in the big old coop and the rest of the gang were in the funrun. They'll have around 6 hours out and about tomorrow.

I helped my brother move house. I don't have to tell anyone how much back and forth and lifting is involved. I was so thankful for my sack truck and for the hydraulic tailgate on the van he borrowed for the weekend. The last few times I moved I paid moving men, but my brother lives on a tighter budget than that so I chipped in a bit of muscle. A very little bit, but it was all I had :gigThe neighbour with the chooks loaned me his big ute for the day, which was a huge help.

That was a real gift. Any help when moving is greatly appreciated. Here in the states you get beer and pizza for helping. I hope he supplied the Australian version.

🤔

I've been short-changed. I only got a pasty and a DC for my lunch!

Seriously, he's my brother and didn't need to give me anything. I enjoyed the free lunch but I enjoyed sitting in the van while he fetched it even more! And I'm delighted he has his own house at last, even if it's only a rental. He's always shared with other people and will thrive as the captain of his own ship.

Well, this is the biggest piece of metal found so far.

And here's a sweetener...

I wonder if bead strings like that would help with a fly problem we have. We have a weird fly vortex around our backdoor which is under a covered patio area. Constant swirling flies, which get sucked inside everytime the door opens.
I was at the shop the other day and saw something called a "shoo fly".

I'll see if I can find a website.

Could you mount one or two upside down under your patio?

I'm so proud of Katie and Edie who are gradually getting easier and easier to pick up and carry over to the big coop each night. Edie is an absolute darling, I needn't even hold her wings down. She just rides along on my hands, nice n easy.

They're getting used to the big coop too. Katie in particular has far less anxiety than she first had. And the food dispensers are gradually going down, which is very reassuring.

It is really special when they start trusting you. Very sweet.

Wonderful.
