This post is so quintessentially you MJ!
I would just like to point out more successes than mistakes, also I am not sure the last couple are actually mistakes.

The real mystery is where did those ants hide their parachutes??

Oooh my morning meeting was cancelled!

You know what that means? I can go sit by the nest

Seems like not much is happening, then she raises herself several cm and settles down again.

I'm going to refresh her water. It's a warmish day.

Still nothing happening.

I guess I'll leave her until the weekend then start putting her up on the roost at night.

Somewhere really safe; they probably anticipated retrieving them.

Counting a few brooding successes.

There's a well set up brooding section in the run.

Mary wasn't harassed by Peggy at any time.

No ants in the coop (except for the two I squashed the other day - I assume they parachuted in).

Mary has been kept cool on hot days and warm on cold days.

I'd better count my mistakes too.

I dropped that Welsummer egg (but perhaps it would have cracked open anyway).

I gave Mary crumbles while she was sitting which may have led to her pooping the nest.

I didn't keep the hen on the eggs when cleaning out the poopy nest.

Still nothing happening.

I guess I'll leave her until the weekend then start putting her up on the roost at night.

Seems reasonable.
I don't know if an egg will hatch, but I think if they don't, both Mary and you did everything you could to make it happen.
While you would be disappointed, you and her have not lost anything (except some money for you, but I suppose that was not very important in this case) and both gained an experience.
It's how I tried to think about it when I did a DNF (did not finish) on a race and while it seemed very artificial to get in this mindset on the day it happened, in the long run, it always turned out to be true !

But I will only give up hope for chicks tonight (for me that is !).

Yes ! And the two days after. I don't know how frequent they are but late hatches do happen.

Yes! Even the day after tomorrow is possible too. I even know of hens who took 24 days to hatch their eggs.
