Maybe good to know what I have been through too? Finally I made it after 2 years and 3 hatches to have 2 pullets.

I had no death chicks. But I had several who didn’t make it in the last week before hatch-day. Many cockerels hatched whom I obviously couldn’t keep. And because of the splendid hatch last year I got a difficult situation and sold a duo and a trio. The 2 pullets I kept last year got lost in space when they started to free range in dangerous territory.

Also, they seem to play a game of who can be the first to poop in the clean water, which means I change the water 5-6 times daily.

I suppose they are less messy with mama’s telling them how to behave.

If they're bold enough they can go down the ramp and have dust baths.

When the chicks are a week old they can.
Just make sure the first time they know their way up the ramp again, before it dark and cold.

I remember when that happened. Such a sad moment.

Your hatches were in a genuine backyard, which is something I can relate to. I don't have a few acres of forage. I have a large suburban backyard and the chickens have already eaten much of the plant life.

Somehow people have an expectation that everything will be just fine, and I'm glad some people have had easy hatches.

But I've found hatching offers a lot to learn and even when I do my best, it's beyond my power to influence outcomes.

They were 1 week old on Thursday. Today's forecast is 38C, a hot day. I'll prepare their space in the little coop in a moment while it's still cool, but I'll wait until tomorrow morning before relocating them because tomorrow's forecast is only 21C. It's probably best if they don't have to deal with excessive heat and a new house at the same time.

What an extreme difference in just one day! I can’t recall such a weather change where I live.
Maybe its the location? I live about 100 km away from the sea and we have no mountains. It influences our weather a lot.

Another short film that I did the music for this year has reached semi-finalist level in both the Rotterdam and Paris International Film Festivals. I'm hoping it will make it to finalist, because then that gives me another screen credit.
