MJ's little flock

I think perhaps the chicks are in their early teenage days. There's a lot of scuffling, dashing around, napping, and a lot of eating and drinking going on.

Yesterday I opened the door to the ground floor of the little coop because I was no longer worried the chicks would come to strife in there. It was a big hit because they scratched up a few of their favourite delicacy: dessicated jacaranda flowers. Later in the day, after I had seen the chicks' familiarity with the little coop's narrow ramp, I opened the pop door to the roosting/nesting section and this started a game called Up one ramp, down the other! Jumping off the highest point and flying as far as possible is also a key entertainment. And last night I gave them a little podium to stand on in case some extra spectacle is called for.

Now the chicks can be in the ground floor section of the little coop, the hens can come up close for a look. Peggy took that as an invitation to peck viciously and persistently at the wire. The chicks will need to be much bigger before any mingling occurs.

I didn't have time for videos, sorry. It was a very sociable weekend with a breakfast, shopping, a lunch, a dinner, and I baked and hosted an afternoon tea.

I thought that was probably the case. I was feeling really good and wanted to share a little piece of my world the way you shared yours. Hopefully you will have a break over Christmas and have some time then. ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing. I'm looking forward to watching it.

They're dropping very healthy looking poops. Even the one I was worried about a week ago has well-formed, well-digested poops of good colour, with urates.

And they'll be starting their 2nd 20kg sack of crumbles tomorrow. There's been waste. I'd say 75% of what I provide goes into the chicks and 25% is wasted, or consumed by the hens.

@LozzyR I saw someone on a recumbent bike and thought of you! It had really big wheels and looked like it would've taken some getting used to, but the rider looked very comfy indeed.
We have a recumbent bike with normal sized wheels and yes, it takes some getting used to (we haven't practiced riding it for ages ). You can get recumbent trikes with big wheels as well. So much more comfy than an upright bike. You never have that issue as a kid (seats are probably completely different) and I used to have a road bike when I was younger, but I guess I didn't ride it every day. I work Wednesday to Friday so have three consecutive days where I ride, and the upright was just getting so uncomfortable.
