MJ's little flock

Hmmm the weather forecast has worsened to heatwave. This is not what I hoped for.

That sure is hot! Meanwhile, my forecast keeps getting worse the other way. Half a meter of snow and -17C coming. That is both more snow and colder than we are used to here.
I got the ladies two bales of straw to insulate the coop floor - they provided hours of entertainment as they spread it around.
I think I will get another couple of bales for them - it did seem to make them happy in the cold.

What a good idea! I think I’ll do the same tomorrow.

If we get the layer of ice that’s being forecast, my ladybugs will not be leaving the run Sunday or Monday.

If I stick to the schedule the chicks would be put outdoors tomorrow. While the forecast is for 43, it will be hotter on the sand of the chicken run. Maybe 45-46.

I hate to keep them indoors longer than required but I can't put them outside in those conditions. It'll have to wait until the heat breaks.

So I'm wracking my noggin to think of how best to expand their space. I may set them free in the back sleepout, with their brooder in a corner for food, water and sleeping. That's the room Katie, Edie and Lorna used while they were quarantining.

I'll have quite a clean up on my hands, before and after chicks, but I can't see any other options just now.

Let's swap places for a day so you can get properly heated up and I can chill.

Love the idea of the bales for insulation. Surely all that scratching around will keep them a little warmer.

They can watch the washing machine go around and around!
