MJ's little flock

Ah. I thought I was taking video but I took photos. The joys of diminishing eyesight

Anyway the photos give some idea of how much space they have, which is what you can see plus another metre or two on the left.

Now they're a little bigger, they could do with a larger sand box. I'll look into the cupboards today and see what I can find.

They’ll be up on that chair in no time!

They are very keen!

I've fashioned a screen door out of puppy play pen panels to allow the cool air from the ac to flow through and to keep a semblance of safety from Blossom.

Although it's probably time to say Blossom has been very sleepy lately, so she went for a checkup and a heart murmur was observed. They took a blood sample for tests, hoping to rule out hypertrophic thingummy... Enlarged heart.

It's no wonder she's not interested in the chicks.

The chicks continue to thrive but in this very moment, they're obsessed with eating the tiny bits of sawdust in their cage. They needn't. The cage door is open and there's plenty of food available :idunno

I've been adding poultry electrolytes to the water because of the heat and in case they're stressed/excited by the changes to their environment. Maybe the electrolytes have made them hungry for whatever they're getting from the sawdust?

Hilda switched to proper food while I was tapping out the post.

I hope she has a long life. It'll be nice to have another black hen.

Another detail: the chicks love the caged bird water container. It's their preferred water dispenser. I like it too because it's too small and high a target for catching debris so it stays cleaner for longer. I've ordered another two.

I'm so sorry to hear of Blossom's difficulties. Hopefully it's nothing more serious than the murmur.

That's a great idea! I must look for one of those for the next time I brood chicks.
