Flip nuzzled Skittles's nose and whispered a greeting in her ear. He smiled solemnly back at Silver. Then, suddenly, he reared back on his hind legs, tossed his black mane, and let out a wild neigh. What more could I ask for? he wondered to himself. Then, dropping back on four hooves, Flip remembered. The only thing that could make me more happy would be... But he wouldn't allow himself to finish the thought, and he shook his mane again as if attempting to rid the thought from his mind.

Levi puffed out his cheeks, a feat that, as far as he could tell, none of the other horses would even attempt. Then he leaned his gray neck awkwardly down to crop a mouthful of grass. Then he spied Flip. Daddy! Levi began to canter towards the great yellow stallion, but then stopped short, his eyes wild. "Shumatin boodu..." he said, worriedly.

Viola stared at Levi. What a stupid colt, she thought. If Flip wants everyone to think so highly of his children, why does he boast like that about this kid? Viola was close enough to Levi to hear his strange words. She scoffed. "What's that supposed to mean, stupid?" she said, frowning.
