The first big molt usually takes place around 16-18 months, and yearly thereafter. You will normally see shed feathers in the coop and outside when they are molting. Many start losing feathers around the neck first. When mine are molting, I will give them either 20% Flock Raiser feed or some 24% gamebird feed in addition to their normal feed for some extra protein. Feeding some scrambled eggs, chopped tuna, or a bit of good dry cat food also works. Here are a couple of good links to read about molting:
