Monster coyote track

One thing to remember Foot prints in the snow appear larger because the snow melts they widen. Game camera would verify...
Absolutely true. Still, that's a big print; look at the span between the claw points! Coydogs and coywolves ... or a mix of the three, which we have in my area (luckily, not nearly as big!) The mixes are super smart, and not as intimidated by humans as a lot of other predators.
I've lost too many pets - kitties, biddies, a pet raccoon (never again!) and a whole bank of rabbit does with kits - to predators over the years, so I tend to over-react to predators. I'd be calling in the Big Guns while I was setting up that camera!

The most recent local dog related coyote Attack was 2-3 coyotes up against 2 pit bulls and a smaller dog. It appears the put Bulls were protecting the smaller dog. One pit bull was mauled to death, second pit bull serioudly injured and the small dog has a couple bite/scratches on head areas the pit bull definitely died for the smaller dog.
I hope they took out a couple of coyotes! I know everything has to eat, but WOW!

San Diego is built on a series of ridges through out the town major and the communities surrounding. Leaving a path for wild life to travel between...

Its not uncommon to have Deer Bobcat Coyotes and Mountain lions travelling between the homes in the city. Coyotes are smart and less apt to be frightened by people... Mountain lions are Like Wills of the whisp... And YOU never see bob cats... You can even be staring right at one in the scrub but unless it moved you likely wouldnt see it.

ALL prey on what they can get. Mountain lions follow the deer... but dont turn up their nose on the occasional dog...

Pit bulls would be no match for a Trio of Coyotes... No matter how Bad A... they are.

One woman took her Daschund pup to the dog park and as soon as it got about thirty feet away from her a Young Coyote Dashed out from where it was hiding Snagged the pup and planned to run off. Didnt get a good hold when it dropped the pup to get a better hold onto it the woman came up screaming.

Pup had to have about fourty stitches on its back.

All that being said... I am a fortification and education kind of gal. In the city No food outside Dogs brought in for the night... In the mountains where I live... Teach the prey the fence bites and the Livestock guarian dog is nOT to be messed with...

Deter them but let them keep their territory Then they keep the others out...

I have eighteen acres unfenced except for a small compound where I live. San Diego High Desert has alot more preds But in the desert the territories are bigger.

First thing I’d do after seeing your animals are safe is call up the neighbor...
let the neighbor know
Oh if you guys only knew my neighbor! :gig
He is the most non-caring and incompetent pet/livestock owner I have ever seen. Lets his free range flock get slaughtered by fox every year, then starts over in the spring.... lets domesticated rabbits run free... has had a non-working electric fence for 2 years... I've made some posts about him on here a few times!

Unfortunately @Kris5902 the 2 calves are by themselves. :(

Some of you are messing with something that is not a Coyote. I have real Coyotes and they are not able to go toe to toe with a putbull when numbers are equal. When the Coyotes operating as a "pack", there is only two combatant Coyotes with pups just making noise. The Coyotes here are in the 35 to 40 lb range in terms of weight. If you are messing with 60+ plus then they are a good part domestic dog or Gray Wolf. You crazy people in the norther US likely have the latter mixed in.

Some attacks attributed to Coyotes on LGD's, I think are from packed up domestic dogs. In a couple cases, even other LGD's when neighboring farmers are too close together.

I recently read an article on coyotes and how adaptable they are. I believe there are over 30 sub-species of coyote now, so you are correct in saying that the coyotes in different parts of the country are different and may have different heritage/dogs/wolves mixed in. I know the coyotes I see in the mountains are different than the ones I see when camping in the desert. Like domestic dogs, their size can vary quite a bit as well. In any event, they are a smart apex predator, with little to fear themselves.
