Moral dilemma-UPDATE!!!

I have to throw my 2 cents in here...if he had been my rooster I would want to know. I would be sad, but would be proud to know he died doing the job that roosters are supposed to do. Honesty is the best policy 99.9% of the time. You took him with the agreement that you would give updates. Dont betray her trust.

I agree--tell the truth and thank her for sending you a hero! It's not like he turned into a bully and you had to make soup out of him; then I might be temped to lie a little bit about the cause of death.

I'd tell her exactly this. And then I'd thank her for giving me a wonderful little rooster that did his duty right up to the end and saved your hens.

Sorry for your loss.

I agree 1000% He was a Chicken-Hero so to speak. YOU did nothing to harm him, and nature is nature. Good luck finding his replacement... those are big chicken shoes to fill.

I'm with them. I have given away some sweet banty frizzle roos and I would be sad, but so proud to know they had gone out swinging and protecting their girls.

Tell her the truth. She trusted you to take the little guy and not eat him. If she finds out you lied, she might not trust anyone again when she needs to rehome a roo. I would tell her the story the way you have it written. And that you feel so badly because you thought he'd be a part of your flock for much younger.

agree... agree... agree...

He died a hero protecting his flock... it is a free-range roosters life.

... and I'm sure she would love the picture.

so, so sorry...

I have to agree with the posts above mine...she asked for updates, and you agreed to share them with her..unless she specified no news unless it's good news then she deserves to know the truth--she shared a brave little guy with you who went out doing what he was supposed to do, protecting the ladies. Nothing to keep secret, you did nothing wrong. Good luck with your decision.

I was so stressed out about this and I should have just done what felt natural to me (telling the truth!) instead of stressing out! I think I will apply this lesson to more aspects of my life and see if I can get rid of this anxiety problem I have. I love lessons in life- even if they bring sadness, they create new possibilities!
