The yellow around the air cell I see often when mine are internal
Remove that candle wax as baby may try to hit there and not be able to get through
I put it on any cracks as well but also remove it when they are trying to hatch if it’s where they would need to get out
I just scratch it off with my finger nail
Is there any bruising to the egg shell itself without candling outside the air cell area ?
Have you seen any beak inside that air cell ? If so has it been past 24 hours
I'd want to assume that this spotting I see is bruising. (See first two pictures below). I've noticed more and more of the membrane itself is becoming outlined visibly by what I believe is bruising as well (or what appears like it).
The inside of this egg is positioned very oddly, and I haven't been able to see the outline of their beak. It very well could've tried the night it had jolted very forcibly while I was candling it. I had to quickly grasp it as it had caused itself to shake.

I had removed the wax automatically, when I noticed spots appear two days ago (I will attach what I exactly saw below here). I had asked about it on a previous post, but I was told it wasn't something to be concerned about...this was a little before I started to notice bruising start to break out across the egg.

I can provide some photos now, and if need be, I'll upload a video to YouTube and share the link. I just candled, as well as tried showing the bruises.

Where the air duct is, there is some light unscented white candle wax, as 6 days ago a dent had happened whilst candling. The bruising all seems to be where the yellow area is, especially at a large bruise at the point end of the egg.

Are you seeing movement when you candle?

I have not seen any movement for the past two days. It will officially be two days within a few hours.
It has caused me to worry greatly, as this was the last egg to seemingly be laid, and thrived the most out of the clutch that my mallard had laid.

It looks to me like it's quit, if you aren't seeing movement that's pretty worrying
Does it have a bad smell or anything?

I see...

It has no bad smell....could be because it's early in quitting then. But that could be because I was too late on helping it then.

Thank you for the insight. Do you think it would hurt to try the safety hole and try to get a better look? I may be in denial but it's hard to for me to give up, if that makes sense.

That's completely understandable
I get it can be hard, and as long as there's no bad smell there's no harm at all in giving it more time.
You could try to get a better look, but I'd still approach it as though you're assisting a live egg, to be on the safe side. Just be prepared that it might be gone
I'd follow @New duck mommy 2021 advice in how to assist this one, as I'm not too sure about the bruising on this egg

I'm not sure at all. I had just placed the safety hole in a clear spot, applying some coconut oil around it as well.

I know the others had started to bruise terribly before I concluded they had quit, this is my mallards first fertilized lay, so I was shocked and in a rush to purchase an incubator.

I will start to prepare for the reality in case this little one did quit. It's weird to say I formed a bond with something that didn't even hatch yet, it was an amazing experience to watch it progress.

Again, thank you so much.
